- Issue
- The Logitech Mouse Driver can cause system hangs during Windows 95 startup.
- Procedure
- In the pre-installed software on the 710/720 and 500, the Logitech Mouse
Driver will try to find a serial mouse on both COM1 and COM2 ports. When the
internal modem is set for COM2 and the Logitech Mouse Driver tries to find a
serial mouse, the driver sends something to the internal modem, causing the
hang condition. The hang does not always occur and it appears that some
systems are more likely to hang.
The problem can be fixed by making a small change to the Windows 95 Registry. The fix changes what serial communications ports the Logitech Mouse Driver will search looking for a serial mouse. In the default system pre-install, the internal modem is set for COM2. The fix tells the Logitech Mouse Driver not to search COM2 for a serial mouse.
IMPORTANT: This bulletin contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, you should first make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat). Both are hidden files in the Windows folder.
