- Issue
- Use this procedure if any of the following are true:
- The Generic IrDA Serial Port is not working properly with TranXit
- The Infrared port is set to COM2
- The Generic IrDA Serial Port is disabled
- Procedure
- Click Start/Settings/Control Panel. Double click the "System" icon. Click Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, double click "Ports (COM and LPT)". If "Generic IrDA serial port" has a red x, double click "Generic IrDA Serial Port".
- In the "Properties" screen if Windows 95 is OSR1 (950A) insert a check mark by "Device usage" for "Undock (Current)" and restart Windows 95.
- If Windows 95 is OSR2 (950B) remove the check for "Disable in this hardware profile." Click ok and restart Windows 95.
- Note: if there is a PCMCIA Modem already configured, the modem under Device Manager has to be removed before following the next step.
- Once Window95 restarts, open Control Panel, double click the "System" icon. Click Device Manager.
- Double click "Ports (COM and LPT)." Verify that "Generic IrDA Serial Port" is set to COM3.
- If "Generic IrDA serial port is not on COM3, double click "Generic IrDA Serial Port." Click the "Resources" folder.
- Remove the check for "Use automatic settings." Change the "basic config 0001" to "basic config 0002" and click "OK." A message will appear to "create a force configuration." Click "yes".
- The "Generic IrDA serial port" will now be set to COM3. If there is a PCMCIA Modem in the slot it will reconfigure to COM2 automatically.
- Note: If the "Generic IrDA Serial Port" in Device Manager does not have a COM port listed next to it, this must be corrected. (Example: Generic IrDA Serial Port COM3). If no COM port is listed, click Start/Find/Files and Folders. Search for "MSPORTS.INF." Once the file is found, double click "MSPORTS.INF". Click Search/Find. Type on the "Find" line "PNP0510" and click "find next" 2 times. "PNP0510" will be highlighted. In the middle of the line change "NODRV" to "COMPORT." Save the file and exit. Restart Windows 95.
- Click Start/Programs/TranXit and click "TranXit" in the list of programs. Once TranXit opens, click the "File Transfer" folder.
- On the menu click "Setup" and "Connection".
- A "Connection Setup" box will be displayed. Click "Remove Connection" until the "Configured connections" box is empty, then click "Setup Connection."
- An "Infrared Settings" box will display. In the "Port' box, COM3 should be highlighted.
- Under the "Model" box, choose "Toshiba Notebook PC." If there is no listing for "Toshiba Notebook PC," then choose "Generic".
- Under "Mode," choose "Variable." The "Baud Rate" settings will default to "115200." All other settings will default to COM3. Click "OK".
- Note: TranXit has to be installed on both computers for this procedure to function properly, even if the other computer is not a Toshiba.
- At this point TranXit will be set up for "File Transfer".
- Align both computers so the Infrared Ports are pointing to each other and are about 6 to 8 inches apart.
- Once the connection is made, the "traffic light" on the tool bar will turn from red to green.
