Not enough extended memory to run Windows WFW after Setup

Issue
  1. After running the Windows for Workgroups Network setup, the following error message occurs and the system quits to C:\> prompt.
  2. "Not enough extended memory available to run Windows. Quit one or more applications to increase available memory or restart your computer."
Procedure
  1. At C:\> prompt, type CD\WINDOWS and press the ENTER key.
  2. At C:\WINDOWS> prompt, type "EDIT SYSTEM.INI" (without quotation marks) and press the ENTER key.
  3. Press the ALT key and then the S key; press the ENTER key to select the FIND option.
  4. In the Find What window, type "DEVICE=VSGM.386" (without the quotation marks) press the ENTER key.
  5. The search will highlight the device statement entry. Press the Spacebar key once. This will delete the entry.
  6. The next step is to add the following entries to the System.ini file. Add this section to the end of the System.ini file.

DelSoftSynth=1

Press the ALT key, then the F key and then the X key to exit. When you see the "Loaded file is not saved. Save it now" message, press the Y key or press the ENTER key to save setting and exit.

The next step is to execute the following commands. You will need the "Toshiba Satellite Pro 440CDT/CDX Backup CD-ROM Utilities & Drivers CD." These next commands assume that your CD-ROM driver letter is (D:). Use the corresponding driver letter assignment.

Copy D:\wfw\sound\msmixmgr.dll C:\windows\system

Copy D:\wfw\sound\midimap.cfg C:\windows\system

Expand D:\wfw\sound\opl3sa.dr_ C:\windows\system\opl3sa.drv

Expand D:\wfw\sound\vopl3sa.38_ C:\windows\system\vopl3sa.386

Restart system (CRTL+ALT+DEL).
