Issue
In the original pre-install software, Win95 was set up with generic drivers for the PCI bus. To see if this problem exists on a machine, open the Device Manager and select System Devices. Look for the following: PCI bus, PCI standard host CPU bridge, and PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge.
Procedure
Remove the PCI bus device via the Device Manager and reboot the machine. When the machine reboots the correct drivers will be installed.

To correct this problem, perform the following steps:

  1. Right Click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.

  2. Select Properties.

  3. Select the Device Manager Tab.

  4. Select "System Devices".

  5. Scroll down until you see "PCI bus".

  6. Click on "PCI bus" to select and click on the "Remove" button.

  7. Click on "Yes" to confirm that you want to remove this device.

  8. Click on "Yes" to reboot the machine.

  9. The machine will reboot several times.

Note: There is one file that must be located during the rebooting/rebuilding

sequence. The file "Vdvd02.vxd" can be found in C:\windows\system.

Once this is done, the problem should be corrected and you should not need to do it again, unless you run the original recovery CD. To verify the drivers are installed correctly, look in the System Devices section again under Device Manager. The two Devices, PCI standard host CPU bridge, and PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge should no longer be listed.
