- Reinstalling Windows 98 on the 4000 series Toshiba notebook
- Procedure
- The following procedure will copy the CAB files to the hard drive and give the option to reinstall Windows 98.
NOTE: Before running this procedure insert the CD "Toshiba Recovery/Backup CD" into the CD-ROM drive.
- Boot into Windows 98 and insert the CD "Toshiba Recovery/Backup CD" into the CD-ROM drive.
- Double click "My Computer." Double click the CD-ROM drive icon.
- At the "Toshiba Application CD Setup" window, scroll down and single click "Windows 98 CAB files" and click the "Install" button.
- A DOS window will appear, press any key to continue. This will start to copy the CAB files to the hard drive and then give the option to reinstall Windows 98.
- Once the files have been copied to the hard drive a "Windows 98 Setup" window will appear. To reinstall Windows 98 click "Continue."
- To exit the Windows 98 setup program click "exit", if Windows 98 needs to be installed at a later date the CAB files are on the hard drive and can be installed from the hard drive and the "Toshiba Recovery/Backup CD" will not be required.
- To continue to install Windows 98, press the "Continue" button. Windows 98 setup will start to check the hard drive for installation.
- A message may display to close all active windows, if there are any DOS windows open at this time close the DOS window and click "OK" to continue installing Windows 98.
- Windows 98 installation will continue to check the system and copy files.
- In the field "Select your country or region from the list below" choose what country this computer will be primarily used in, click "Next" to continue.
- Insert a blank diskette into the floppy drive at this time, Windows 98 will create a startup diskette. Click "Next" to continue.
- Click "Next" at the window "Start Copying Files" to begin the Windows 98 installation.
- This process will take 30 - 60 minutes to reinstall Windows 98. NOTE: WINDOWS 98 WILL COPY FILES TO THE COMPUTERS HARD DRIVE
- Once Windows 98 finishes copying files, click "Restart Computer."
- Once Windows 98 restarts, Windows 98 will setup all new hardware, this will take several minutes.
- A message will appear to Restart Windows 98, click "Restart Windows."
- Windows will ask to restart once again, restart windows.
- Once the computer restarts, the installation Windows 98 will be completed.
