Palm Pilot Cannot Recognize COM1: on the Tecra 8000 with Windows NT Loaded

- Palm Pilot unable to detect the serial port (COM1) on the Tecra 8000 under Windows NT 4.x.
- Procedure
- Uninstall the Toshiba Mouse Driver:
- Click "Start", select "Settings" and select "Control Panel."
- Double click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
- Highlight the "Toshiba Mouse Driver"
- Click the "Add/Remove" button to remove the mouse driver.
Re-enable the "Serial Device" Service:
- Click "Start", select "Settings" and select "Control Panel."
- Double click the "Devices" icon.
- Scroll down the list and highlight the "Serial" device.
- Click the "Startup" button.
- Under "Startup Type" select "Automatic" and click the "OK" button.
- Click the "Close" button.
Add COM1: in the Ports Control Panel:
- Click "Start", select "Settings" and select "Control Panel."
- Double click the "Ports" Icon.
- Click the "Add" button.
- Under "Com Port Number" Select "1" from the pull down menu. For the Base I/O and IRQ settings, set both to "Default" from the pull down menus.
- Shut down the system, plug in the Palm Pilot into the serial port. Power up the system, load the Palm Pilot software, it will then recognize COM1: and load the software.
