Issue
Palm Pilot unable to detect the serial port (COM1) on the Tecra 8000 under Windows NT 4.x.
Procedure
Uninstall the Toshiba Mouse Driver:
  1. Click "Start", select "Settings" and select "Control Panel."
  2. Double click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
  3. Highlight the "Toshiba Mouse Driver"
  4. Click the "Add/Remove" button to remove the mouse driver.

    Re-enable the "Serial Device" Service:

  5. Click "Start", select "Settings" and select "Control Panel."
  6. Double click the "Devices" icon.
  7. Scroll down the list and highlight the "Serial" device.
  8. Click the "Startup" button.
  9. Under "Startup Type" select "Automatic" and click the "OK" button.
  10. Click the "Close" button.

    Add COM1: in the Ports Control Panel:

  11. Click "Start", select "Settings" and select "Control Panel."
  12. Double click the "Ports" Icon.
  13. Click the "Add" button.
  14. Under "Com Port Number" Select "1" from the pull down menu. For the Base I/O and IRQ settings, set both to "Default" from the pull down menus.
  15. Shut down the system, plug in the Palm Pilot into the serial port. Power up the system, load the Palm Pilot software, it will then recognize COM1: and load the software.
