Issue
How to re-master a Portege 7000/7010 series computer using the Enhanced Recovery CD (Windows '95 bundle) with a CD-ROM drive that does not support the recovery CD's boot option.
Procedure
  1. Make a bootable floppy disk to support the CD-ROM drive you want to use making sure to include the /L:Q parameter on the line that loads MSCDEX in Autoexec.bat. This will assign drive letter Q to the CD-ROM drive which is important for the recovery CD to find files on the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Once the system is booted, type "Q:" and press the "Enter" key to switch to the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Type "CD BIN" and press the "Enter" key to switch to "BIN" directory.
  4. Type "Recovery" and press "Enter" key to begin the recovery process and follow the prompts.
  5. Recovery of the system is complete when the message to remove floppy disk or CD from the drives is displayed.
  6. Failure to make the CD-ROM drive letter Q will result in a "WRONG CD" error message. If the system board has been replaced, the DMI entry will need to be written or the system will give a "WRONG MACHINE" error message. The Toshiba diagnostics disk is required to set the DMI entry. The command "DMIW.COM" is used to set DMI entry and the "DMIR.COM" command is used to review settings. All data entered should be in capital letters. Model name of system listed as PORTEGE 7000. The diagnostic disk images can be obtained from the ATLAS CD (tools/disk creator/test and diagnostics) or via WEB site http://www.csd.toshiba.com/tais/csd/service/channel/atlas/diags/diags.htm
