Information
Important:
The Back up must be done of data only. A whole system back up may not be properly restored on units returning from the Toshiba RECALL. Also, you will have to REINSTALL all of your applications.

Section 1:
Backing up the PDA's Data to a "Temporary Folder" prior to shipping the PDA into Toshiba for the RECALL & the updating of the Firmware.

  1. Sync the PDA so that all of the data information will be current on the workstation.
  2. Verify that all of the data has been Synced and updated on the workstation.
  3. Use the MS ActiveSync Explorer to copy all of the data files on the PDA to a "temp folder" on the workstation.
    1. Open MS ActiveSync
    2. Click on "File > Explore"
    3. Copy all of your data files/folders to the "temp folder" that was created on your workstation.
  4. Verify that all of the data files have been moved to the temp folder.
  5. Note the Device ID Name of your PDA.
    1. On the PDA, select Start/Settings/System/About/Device ID.

      Note: The default Device ID name is "Pocket_PC", unless you have created another name, this is the name you should see.

  6. Send the unit in for the Repair and Firmware update.


Section 2:
Restoring the PDA's Data from a "Temporary Folder" after receiving the PDA back from Toshiba for the RECALL & the updating of the Firmware.

Note: Please don't dock the e740 in the cradle until instructed to do so in step "D", below.

  1. Delete the existing partnership from MS ActiveSync.
    1. On your workstation, open MS ActiveSync.
    2. Click on "File > Mobile Device" and then the Device ID Name of your PDA.
      Note: This is the Device ID Name that was noted earlier.
    3. Click on "File > Delete Partnership"
    4. Click on "YES" to confirm folder deletion. This will delete the partnership between your computer and the PDA.
      If this step is not completed, there may be a conflict when you cradle your PDA.
  2. Power the PDA on using the "White Battery Switch", which is located on the bottom of the unit.

  3. Configure the PDA. (IE. User Information & PDA Device ID)
    1. On the PDA enter the User Information.
      1. Select Start/Settings/Personal/Owner Information
    2. On the PDA enter the PDA Device ID.
      1. Select Start/Settings/System/About/Device ID.
        The default Device ID name is "Pocket_PC". Unless you want to create another name, this is the name you should use.
  4. Dock the PDA into its cradle and make sure a connection is made between the PDA and the workstation.
    Note: You will be asked to Setup a Partnership. Configure the Partnership as you did when you first purchased your PDA.
  5. Complete the partnership with the workstation. (After the partnership has been created the PDA should begin to sync.)
  6. Verify that Sync has completed successfully.
  7. Use the MS ActiveSync Explorer to copy all of the files from the temp folder back to the PDA.
    1. Open MS ActiveSync
    2. Click on "File > Explore"
    3. Copy all of your data files/folders from the "temp folder" that was created on your workstation back to your PDA's Mobile Device Folders. (IE: Business, Personal, Templates & etc.).
  8. Verify that the files are on the PDA.
  9. Install any application programs that you previously had installed on the PDA.

    Note: Do not install the Microsoft high-encryption pack. This was installed as part of the recall repair.
