If Microsoft Office Starter 2010 came with your Windows 7 PC and you would like to use it, you must install and update it before upgrading to Windows 8. If you don't install the latest version of Microsoft Office Starter 2010 on your Windows 7 PC before upgrading to Windows 8, you won't be able to use it after the operating system upgrade is complete.

To avoid compatibility issues with Office Starter 2010 when upgrading to Windows 8, end users must install the Office 2010 Click-to-Run update, which is referenced in the Microsoft KB article 2742694
