If you try to update the BIOS under a 64-bit Vista or Win 7 OS, the following error will be displayed and the update process will terminate.

For Toshiba models that where never shipped with a Vista or Win 7 64-bit operating system the windows based BIOS installer will not work.  The error message displayed above occurs when the 32 bit installer is used on a system that has been upgraded to the 64 bit OS.

To install BIOS upgrades on the affected systems which have been upgraded to the 64 bit versions of Vista or Win 7 the CD-ROM or Diskette installation methods must be used.

CD-ROM Installation

1. Place a blank CD-ROM in the optical disk drive, select CD-ROM installation and click OK.
2. Power on the computer and press the F12 key while the TOSHIBA logo is being displayed to bring up the Boot Menu.
3. Select CD/DVD and press Enter.
4. The computer will boot from the CD-ROM, and install the BIOS update automatically.
5. After the BIOS update completes, the computer will restart.
6. Press F1 to load BIOS defaults.
7. The computer will restart.

Diskette Installation

1. Attach a Floppy Disk Drive to the computer and insert a blank diskette.
2. Power on the computer and press the F12 key while the TOSHIBA logo is being displayed to bring up the Boot Menu.
3. Select FDD and press Enter.
4. The computer will boot from the Floppy diskette, and install the BIOS update automatically.
5. After the BIOS update completes, the computer will restart.
6. Press F1 to load BIOS defaults.
7. The computer will restart.
