
An Error is displayed when updating the BIOS in 64-bit Vista or Win 7

If you try to update the BIOS under a 64-bit Vista or Win 7 OS, the following error will be displayed and the update process will terminate.
For Toshiba models that where never shipped with a Vista or Win 7 64-bit operating system the windows based BIOS installer will not work. The error message displayed above occurs when the 32 bit installer is used on a system that has been upgraded to the 64 bit OS.
- Resolution
To install BIOS upgrades on the affected systems which have been upgraded to the 64 bit versions of Vista or Win 7 the CD-ROM or Diskette installation methods must be used.
- Procedure
CD-ROM Installation
- Place a blank CD-ROM in the optical disk drive, select CD-ROM installation and click OK.
- Power on the computer and press the F12 key while the TOSHIBA logo is being displayed to bring up the Boot Menu.
- Select CD/DVD and press Enter.
- The computer will boot from the CD-ROM, and install the BIOS update automatically.
- After the BIOS update completes, the computer will restart.
- Press F1 to load BIOS defaults.
- The computer will restart.
Diskette Installation
- Attach a Floppy Disk Drive to the computer and insert a blank diskette.
- Power on the computer and press the F12 key while the TOSHIBA logo is being displayed to bring up the Boot Menu.
- Select FDD and press Enter.
- The computer will boot from the Floppy diskette, and install the BIOS update automatically.
- After the BIOS update completes, the computer will restart.
- Press F1 to load BIOS defaults.
- The computer will restart.
