Information

Toshiba Computers

DVD decoder drivers and player applications: Due to licensing restrictions, Toshiba is not able to provide DVD decoder drivers or DVD player software on its Support website. The DVD drives and decoders in current models (as of July 2004) are supported by Windows XP, and thus do not require a special driver.  All current models use software DVD decoders, and ship with the WinDVD player app. The WinDVD player is available on the Configuration Builder CD / Recovery CD (or DVD) that is shipped with each computer.

The Tecra 750780, and 8000 models, and the Portege 70007010, and 7020 models have hardware DVD decoders. For Windows 98 and 98SE, please use the DVD decoder drivers from the Configuration Builder CD that shipped with the computer. Windows 2000 and Windows XP have built-in support for these hardware DVD decoders.

For other DVD-capable models: a software decoder is provided with the DVD player application (DVDExpress or WinDVD) that is pre-installed on each model.

CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drivers: Toshiba uses standard EIDE optical drives (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, etc.) in its PCs. No drivers are required, as support for these drives is built into the Windows operating systems, including Windows XP.

If you still need a DVD player application

If you purchased your DVD drive separately from your computer, a CD-ROM containing a DVD player application is often included. Check the box in which it was shipped to be sure you haven't missed it.

There are several companies that offer free or low-cost DVD player applications. Two very good low-cost DVD players are WinDVD, and PowerDVD. To find others, search the Web for "DVD software".
